Floor Covering

PDF Print E-mail

You may love your hardwood floors, but that doesn't mean they go with your décor, and that doesn't mean that you won't get bored and want something new once in a great while.

There are people who will put wall to wall carpet down over floors like those, and though that can be nice; this does some damage to the hardwoods. That means you should find floor coverings that will not damage the flooring you have, but that will make a difference in the way your room looks and feels.

One type of floor coverings that won't harm your hardwood too much would be

the throw rug or the area rug. Some of these are heavy enough that they sit on their own, but many need some help saying in place.

They can be used when you want wall to wall, but you won't have to staple the carpet down into your floors. You can find special ways to keep them in place so that no one falls and trips when they are walking through the room. These should do very minimal damage to your floors as long as you talk with someone about the best way to do it.

You can also get floor coverings that go in hallways that don't necessarily mean that you are going to damage your hardwoods. You can find runners that can go down in much the same way as the throw and area rugs that you have used for floor coverings in the rest of your home. These may look a lot better than wall to wall anyway, as they can have a really great pattern that can match or liven up your hallways décor.

These are often boring spaces, and these runners can add a little something to that space.

When you have hardwoods, there are other sorts of floor coverings that you should notice. When you are doing any type of painting, whether it be the walls or a work of art, you should always have something down to catch your drips and spills. Leaving your floors bare while doing such projects almost guarantees that you are going to spill a gallon of paint, or that you are going to find splotches all over the place, even when you thought you were being careful.

When you buy these floor coverings, try to find some that will keep fluids from seeping through.
