Physical Therapy Center

PDF Print E-mail

One of the most frustrating things about being in accident is the recovery period. You may feel ready to take on the world but your physician probably has a different view.

It's important to take the road to recovery slowly and only engage in activities your physician has approved of. Once the initial healing period is over, you may be sent to a physical therapy center. At one of these facilities you will be able to heal your muscles and joints and get back into shape.

Our bodies are much like delicate pieces of machinery.

If something is amiss, many of the other parts don't work the way they should. If you sustained a leg injury, you may feel pain or stress in your lower back.

The same can be true if you've injured a shoulder: there may be some intermittent tingling and numbness in your hand. At an accredited physical therapy center you will be evaluated and treated so the core problem is addressed which will help with any associated discomfort.

Your doctor will be the person who decides when it's time for you to attend therapy. It's important that the injury is well on its way to healing before you begin to engage in any type of structured movements. At the physical therapy center your injury will be taken into consideration in addition to your lifestyle.

If you've broken an arm and you are an automotive mechanic, your injury will require more extensive therapy than an elderly person who lives a sedentary lifestyle would had they broken an arm.

Exercise is not the only thing you will gain when you visit one of these facilities. You may also be subjected to heat or cold therapy. This is traditionally administered soon after an injury particularly a strain or a sprain.

Your therapist will certainly explain you how the heat and cold affect the injury site and what you can do at home to aid in the healing process. You may be instructed to use ice packs in addition to a heating pad to help with your injury.

Although your visits to therapy are an essential part of your recovery process, you'll still need to visit your doctor now and again. He or she will be the one who determines when you can return to your normal activities and also when your time at the physical therapy center is over.

Follow all instructions given to you and you'll be back to normal very quickly.

Depending on the medical insurance plan you have in place, a portion of your visits to therapy may be covered. With some plans all of your visits to the physical therapy center will be paid for so you won't have to worry about financing this portion of your recovery.

Instead, you can focus on getting well.
